My life began in the state of Ohio to two great parents, Bishop Charles and Elaine Scott. I am the middle child of a total of (8) kids, and to put it succinctly, I wouldn’t trade my upbringing with anyone. Growing up, my parents were great providers and parents who knew the value of hard work and the importance of having personal integrity.
My father was a bi-professional Pastor who for most of his ministerial life served as a Pastor and an Industrial Engineer. Dad was in my eyes the model father, husband, Pastor and son. My mother faithfully supported my father in his work and was a very strong person in her own right. Mom worked as an accountant/bookkeeper up until the last month of her eighty-four years of life. Christ’s Church was our life. From my youth, I was heavily involved in many church ministries and activities, and because of it, my closest friends were children and youth whose parents were also a part of our local church. I acknowledged a call to ministry at the age of twenty-two and in the early years of my preparation for ministry my father served as not only a strong role model, but also my spiritual mentor. Most of what I have learned about the practical side of ministry, I learned from my father, who mentored many young men and women who have entered the Christian ministry in addition to myself. Both of my parents instilled within me an unquenchable thirst for God’s Word and the discipline of personal study and preparation. Additionally, I have been blessed with having completed the equivalent to the Master of Divinity Degree after having studied at Central Baptist Theological Seminary, Ashland Theological Seminary, and Cranmer Theological Seminary, and Bible Baptist Seminary (Clarks Summit University).
I married my late spouse, the former Cynthia E. Harris in 1985. There is never a day that passes that I don’t realize how blessed I was to have been married to her and with God’s help, made a wonderful life together. During our marriage of over thirty-eight years and two months, we made (3) major relocations. I can honestly say that in each relocation God confirmed in a multitude of ways that with each one, the Lord was leading us by the Holy Spirit. What a blessing Cynthia’s life has been for me and those who came under her influence as a godly and deeply committed servant of God, wife, mother and grandmother in her own right.
Cynthia and my union produced one adult son who is married, and he and our daughter-in-law have given us three beautiful grandchildren. I also have a daughter, and son-in-law who live in the Nashville, TN area. They have also given us three beautiful grandchildren. In addition to our children and grandchildren we have proved a foster home for the last eleven years. The agency we have worked with during this time specializes in serving the international foster care community. Even in the wake of Cynthia’s passing, I have chosen to remain active in Foster Care and currently have two teenage daughters in our home residing with me. Over the years we both have enjoyed this challenging yet rewarding work as foster parents.
Professionally, I have also been a bi-professional Pastor, having worked in the financial services field, particularly in the retirement planning and insurance industry. For over three decades I served as a sales agent/sales manager in multi states, as well as an agency owner.
Throughout my career in the financial services business I have most enjoyed the interaction with the multitude of people I have met and helped. My first true love, however, is fulfilling God’s call to the Christian pastorate where I love the interaction with people and the great privilege of expounding God’s sacred Word.
Previous to being called to St. John CPC I served as Ruling Elder and Coordinator for Mercy and Urban Ministries at Fort Worth Presbyterian Church in Fort Worth, TX.
My natural personality is one of a helper and encourager, and I trust that for the rest of my life on earth I share the great privilege of encouraging God’s people and helping those who do not know Christ come to a saving knowledge of Him.
